Property Management 101: California Rental Housing Law & Best Practices

Managing rental property in California continues to become more complex. Property Management 101 is an in-depth, practical seminar designed to help rental property owners and property managers better understand their responsibilities, stay current with California rental housing requirements, reduce risk, and avoid costly mistakes.

Presented by Attorney Guillermo “Bert” Partida of Slaughter, Reagan & Cole LLP, this four-hour seminar will walk attendees through key issues that arise throughout the rental housing lifecycle—from preparing and advertising a rental and selecting tenants to managing an active tenancy and properly handling move-outs.

Topics will include new and recently updated California rental housing laws; advertising, tenant screening, and fair housing considerations; rent increases and notices; habitability and maintenance obligations; common property-related liability concerns; termination of tenancy and eviction issues; security deposits; documentation; and risk management.

Bert will also discuss practical, real-world situations that rental housing providers regularly encounter and identify common pitfalls that can create unnecessary liability. Attendees will have opportunities to ask questions throughout the program and gain practical information they can apply to their own rental operations.

Whether you own one rental property or manage an entire portfolio, this seminar is designed to strengthen your understanding of California rental housing requirements and help you make more informed property management decisions.
